Before buying van roof bars: a fitment checklist
A familiar van name is only the start of a roof-bar search. Different generations, body lengths and roof heights can require different hardware. Collecting the right details before comparing products helps you ask a useful question: which complete system is confirmed for this particular vehicle and the work it needs to carry?
Identify the exact vehicle
Record the make, model, model generation and body variant. Note the roof height and body length, including any L and H identifiers used in the vehicle documentation. A registration year can help narrow the search, but a change of generation may happen within a year. Use the manufacturer’s vehicle selector and confirm uncertain details rather than treating the badge as a complete specification.
Rhino’s fitting-instruction finder separates make, model and year, size and product. That is a useful model for your own enquiry. Keep a photograph of the van and its roof arrangement alongside the written details, especially if roof rails, a conversion or other equipment have already been fitted.
Match the mounting arrangement and complete kit
Check what the proposed system attaches to and which feet, pads, spacers or fitting kit it requires. Rhino’s KammBar Pro, for example, uses vehicle-specific pads and spacers and is offered in several bar configurations. This is a product example, not evidence that a similar-looking kit will fit another van.
Ask for the exact system and fitting-kit references. Download the corresponding instructions before ordering, then compare their vehicle description and mounting illustrations with your van. If the roof arrangement differs, resolve that discrepancy with the manufacturer. Do not alter a fitting to make an unconfirmed kit work.
Describe the load you actually carry
Write down the dimensions and weight of the regular load, whether that is a ladder, pipe carrier or other work equipment. Include accessories you plan to attach. Ask how that load must be supported and restrained by the chosen system. Bar count, support positions and accessory compatibility should come from its instructions rather than a general rule.
Find the vehicle’s roof-load information in its handbook as well as the equipment’s own limits. Keep both available during the enquiry. A product’s headline capacity does not answer every question about the completed vehicle and load.
Review installation and everyday clearance
Read the tools, fasteners and installation steps specified for the kit. Bolt torque, sealing, permitted mounting locations and any drilling requirements belong to those instructions. If the procedure is outside your experience, discuss installation with a suitable fitter before purchase.
Consider the finished height and the places the van needs to enter. Check existing roof equipment and door access against the proposed arrangement. Save the instructions and product references so future inspections, replacement parts and accessory enquiries start from the system actually installed.
